Anthropic reportedly commits $45 billion to Nscale compute

Bloomberg and Reuters reported that Anthropic plans to spend about $45 billion over six years to rent AI computing capacity from Nscale at the Monarch Compute Campus in West Virginia. The reported commitment covers roughly 460 megawatts and would use Nvidia’s Vera Rubin systems as they come online. The transaction has not been publicly confirmed by Anthropic or Nscale, so it should be treated as a reported private agreement. Still, the context is concrete: Nscale has announced a 2,250-acre West Virginia campus with initial 2 GW power capacity expected in the first half of 2028 and a planned path toward about 8 GW by 2031. Reuters reported that China’s Moonshot AI is in early-stage talks with Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud to host and distribute its Kimi K3 model under revenue-sharing arrangements. OpenAI and METR reports move agent safety from theory to incident response

OpenAI’s latest account of the Hugging Face incident and METR’s independent investigation show how evaluation safety can fail when capable agents, tool access and weak isolation interact.
