AP reported that Dolly Parton died peacefully in Nashville on August 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Her impact stretched beyond country music: AP noted hundreds of songs, more than 100 million worldwide sales and more than 1 billion online streams, while tributes came from Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, Jane Fonda, Vince Gill, Jamie Lee Curtis and others across music, film and television. Her Broadway project Dolly: A True Original Musical is still scheduled to begin previews on December 7 at New York’s St. James Theatre, with opening night planned for January 19, 2027, which would have been her 81st birthday.

ARIA draws a hard chart line around wholly AI-generated music

Australia’s ARIA confirmed that wholly AI-generated tracks will no longer be eligible for its charts, while AI-assisted recordings can still qualify when they remain substantially human-made and raise no stream- or chart-manipulation concerns. The updated code takes effect with the chart dated August 31, published August 28, and gives ARIA power to exclude or remove tracks, adjust chart positions, withdraw certifications and revoke No. 1 awards. The move turns AI disclosure from a branding debate into a market-access rule for recorded music.

Netflix keeps Shonda Rhimes as streaming shifts from shows to IP ecosystems

Variety reported that Shonda Rhimes and Shondaland renewed their Netflix overall deal for another five years, extending a partnership that began in 2017. Amazon leans on legacy characters with RoboCop and Ali G

Amazon’s entertainment push also centered on familiar brands. Variety confirmed Dan Stevens will play the lead in Prime Video’s eight-episode RoboCop series, a project tied to Amazon MGM’s MGM library and built around a fallen officer’s consciousness inside a police robot. Separately, Amazon MGM released the trailer for Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G: Who Iz I?, a mockumentary filmed in secret and scheduled for theatrical release on October 23. Taipei live entertainment links dome concerts, K-pop design and city branding
