GTA VI’s extended reveal and Elden Ring’s Switch 2 launch set the pace for Gamescom week
Today’s gaming cycle is split between Rockstar reclaiming the GTA VI narrative with a 26-minute official showcase, Gamescom moving into awards and follow-up showcases, Switch 2 getting a stronger third-party test, and VALORANT Pacific entering elimination pressure.

GTA VI returns to the official script after the leak cycle
Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look moved from a Netflix premiere on August 27 to YouTube and the official GTA VI site later that night. PC Gamer described it as a roughly 26-minute gameplay montage focused on Jason and Lucia, Vice City and Leonida, dynamic cover, mission set pieces, recreational activities, relationship choices, criminal profiling, and more interactive safehouses. The game remains dated for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC date announced.

Gamescom shifts from reveal week to awards and wishlist conversion
The main gamescom awards are scheduled for August 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. CEST at the Studio Stage in Hall 7. FGS Live from Gamescom also kept the mid-size pipeline visible with Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 on October 14, Rivage on September 22, Neon Abyss 2 leaving early access in fall 2026, and several Steam demos.

Single-player launches keep premium games in the spotlight
The end-of-August slate is unusually dense for premium releases. Xbox Wire lists Star Wars Zero Company and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy for August 27, with Resonance also on Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere, while Nintendo’s schedule puts Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters on Switch today with 110 playable characters. Windows Central’s Star Wars Zero Company review highlights Bit Reactor’s XCOM lineage, Respawn and EA’s license support, cinematic turn-based combat, generally solid 60 fps performance on Xbox Series X, and some remaining glitches.
